An example of the use of Global Service Relation Number is the identification of patient stays in hospitals. In this case, the service provider is the hospital and the service recipient is the patient. The GCP to be used is the one allocated to the hospital. The hospital generates a GSRN for each of its patients. The GSRN is prefixed by an Application Identifier '8018' (orange). It starts with the GCP (dark red), then the number generated by the user company (hospital; yellow) and ending with a check digit (blue). Total fix length is 18 digits.
