Project launch

On 20 April 2004, the project was officially launched at the St Jame's Hospital in Dublin. A large number of participants representing healthcare providers, patients associations, industry, as well as clinicians, from a host of countries including the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Netherlands, Switzerland, as well as Ireland, were in attendance. The initiative was warmly welcomed by all parties who expressed their firm support for the project.

Mr Michael Martin, Minister for Health and Children TD, presented the keynote address and expressed his strong support and interest in the positive outcome of the project, for the benefit not only of patient safety, but also of the enhancement of the total supply process of the vital and expensive factor products.


On the evening prior to the launch, the initiative was discussed and reviewed by a core group of experts which included a video-conference with experts in Alberta, Canada as well as the Food and Drug Administration in the US. All parties expressed their keen interest in, and support of, the project.
