How the System Works

This graphic illustrates how the GS1 System will be used throughout the Supply Chain to enable full traceability.

It should be emphasised that several components of the GS1 System used in this project will provide the building blocks for potential additional applications in the future. For example, the identification of a medical doctor for an Electronic Patient Records system or the hospital location for automatic inventory replenishment solutions.

It should also be emphasised that the requirements for privacy and patient confidentiality will be strictly adhered to.
