The report of the Audit Commission was refered to by the Director of Pharmacy, Wirral Hospital NHS Trust in an article published by the Pharmacy Journal early January 2002. It emphasise the central role of the hospital pharmacy as a clinical profession and not as a supply service. This can significantly contribute to the effectiveness of medicine management.
In 2002, the Wirral Hospital NHS Trust won the top IT award for its automated dispensing system (see report in Pharmaceutical Journal) having been credited for its electronic prescribing system in 1996.
